During the debate on the amendments proposed by Members of Parliament, Ministry of Labour accepted four proposed changes, among them the amendment that provides and opportunity to the parent of children with serious desabilities to work short hours.
The debate heated around the amendment submitted by a group of MPs, proposing to eliminate the provision that obligates expecting mothers to start the maternity leave no later than 28 days of the scheduled birth. The amendment was not accepted by Minister of Labour Jakimovski.
In the defense of the amendment, Karolina Ristovska Asterud, MP from the Social-Democratic Union of Macedonia, said that the women should be able “... to decide for themselves when and how to use their maternity leave”.
