The total area of 603 hectares will be declared into Category III natural monument. The legal protection of the monument is based on the “Natural and Historic Value of the Area of Vrelo Bosne” study, prepared by the Cantonal Bureau for Protection of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage of Sarajevo.

The basic values of the area are the springs and wells of Bosna River, the rich vegetation and its location. In addition to the protection of water wells, the Law should provide for improved conditions for development of tourism, the improved local economic opportunities of the local populaion through service and business activities.

The natural monument area will be divided into two zones: the first zone of 70 hectares will conserve specific natural features, while the second zone of 533 hectares will take care primarily of protection of the springs.
