Increased Fines for Littering in Tirana

The Environmental Inspectorate and the Tirana Police Department announced that they will double the fines for legal entities that pollute the streets in Albanian capital.

The new fines for litteing on the streets and sidewalks in Tirana will range from 1,000 to 10,000 Lek. In addition to the Environmental Inspectorate, the local Police will also be able to sentence fines on the violators, up to 5,000 Lek.

Recently, the Municipality of Tirana organised the timetables for collection of waste produced by legal entities. The pilot project, implemented by several waste collection companies, covers 20 main streets in Tirana and legal entities and businesses.

The Municipality also cooperates with the non-governmental sector to evaluated the possibility for recycling fo some materials, as well as to raise the levels of public awareness on waste disposal issues.
