Croatian Members of Parliament Condemn Experimenting on Dogs

Beagles were used as experimental animals for testing of new treatments and medicines.
Beagles were used as experimental animals for testing of new treatments and medicines.
On Friday, July 15, HDZ Members of the Sabor (Croatian Parliament) Andrija Hebrang and Jagoda Martincevic strongly condemned the scientific experiments conducted at the Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Sciences in Zagreb, in which dogs’ bones are broken to test bone-tissue regeneration medicine.

Hebrang, a physician himself, says that the experiments, reported last week by the media, are actually unnecessary, from the scientific point of view, having in mind that the treatment was already tested on human subjects.

He added that this is primarily a matter of money, because the Western pharmaceutical companies pay a lot for experiments in countries like Croatia, since similar experiments are legally prohibited in their own countries.

The two MPs demanded, on the behalf of the HDZ Sabor Club, to start the investigation against all people involved in this inhumane treatment of the dogs. Also, they demand that the experiments are stopped immediately and all dogs are given for adoption.
