Roma Education Project Results Presented in Beli Manastir

Mirko Markovic from the Ministry of Education of National Minorities, Jagoda Novak, coordinator of Roma educational program at Open Society Croatia attended the presentation held on July 7 in Beli Manastir, together with over 60 other representatives of international institutions, NGOs, implementers and project beneficiaries.

The presentation was organized under the auspices of the “Roma Education in Beli Manastir” project, implemented by IOD-H, in cooperation with the European Commission, the OSCE Mission in Croatia, the Municipality of Beli Manastir, Office of Children Ombudsman, Bureau of Gender Equality and the EU board in Croatia.

“This Project aims at implementation of an educational model that will contribute to successful incorporation of Roma children in Croatian educational system and society, in compliance with the aims of the Roma Inclusion Decade 2005-2015, the National Roma Program and European Council recommendations”, said Jagoda Novak, project coordinator.

”I’m afraid that we have identified that Roma and non Roma children are not sharing same benches in the classroom, and we are worried by the fact that 1/3 of children were at some point of time verbally and/or physically abused by their school colleges’’ warned Petra Hoblaj, expert evaluator of the project.
