Referendum on waste dump

“Volujica” environmental NGO protested, on Wednesday, June 22, the poor performance by the Bar Municipality Legislative Commission in the processing of the civic initiative for a local referendum, submitted by the citizens of Old Bar community, on the future location of a waste dump of Bar and Ulcinj municipalities.

“Volujuca” accused the local authorities, in a public release, of not wanting to listen to the citizens’ opinion and enforce the Municipal Statute, for that matter.

“We expect from the members of the Legislative Commission to do their job and protect the interests of the citizens of the Municipality, since they were appointed to this Commission to do exactly that. We only ask that the citizens’ right to vote on the future location of the waste dump is observed, having in mind the importance of this issue for the future life of this community”, said the representatives of the “Volujica” NGO.

“Volujica” emphasized that the Commission was asking for further clarification of their request, which the citizens provided the next day. They added that, the request of the local Assembly member Snezana Jonica, to immediately process the initiative, was denied and will not enter the agenda of the next session of the Municipal Assembly of Bar Municipality.
