NGOs Demand Investigation of Crimes Against Bosnian Refugees in Montenegro

Thirteen years after the deportations of tens of B&H refugees from Herzeg Novi back into war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Humanitarian Law Centre and the Group for Changes NGOs demanded that the authorities start investigation of the perpetrators and persons who ordered this crime against humanity.

The two organizations invited the Montenegro authorities to tell the truth and demanded from the authorities to declare May 30 a Memory Day for the Deportations of Refugees in April and May 1992.

"We expect that the state will act on its obligations, take the responsibility and prove, therefore, that it renounces the practice that existed in Montenegro", said Natasa Kandic, Director of the HLC.

She added that “the victims have the right to know the truth” and estimated that the deportation of the Bosnian refugees was “one of the most serious violations of human right in Montenegro”.

Nebojsa Medojevic, the leader of the Group for Change, said that it is hard to expect from the current government to raise the issue of responsibility for crimes that took place in the past 15 years.
