Associations of the Disabled Persons Support the New Rules and Regulations

The associations of persons with disabilities support the new Book of Rules and Regulations on the use of accessibility sign. The new Rulebook states that the disabled persons that don’t suffer from disabling conditions on their lower extremities, or have suffered less than 70 percent damage to their legs, won’t be able to use the parking slots reserved for vehicles driven by disabled persons.

The application of the new rules will reduce the number of vehicles, but also persons, with the right to carry a “disability sign” by at least 30 percent.

„I fully support the new Rulebook. The self-adhesive patches used now can be bought even at the flee-markets. When each and every disabled person gets its own number, the possibilities for abuse will be greatly reduced”, says Denis Marijon, the President of the Association of Students with Disabilities.

The members of the Croation Paraplegic and Tetraplegic Association HUPT hold a similar position.

“Our goal is not to reduce the number of drivers, but the number of abuses of the disability patch. It is only fair that the right to carry the sigh belongs to persons with disabilities in the lower extremities. With the new regulation, a disabled person will carry the ID card on his/herself, regardless of the vehicle he/she is using, and the right to use the patch will be given only to those persons that drives a disabled person in their vehicles”, says Janko Ehrlich Zdvorak, Member of the Board of HUPT.
