Amnesty: Croatian Judiciary Continues with Ethnic Discrimination Practice

The majority of persons tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Croatian Courts were Croatian Serbs, and Croatian judiciary continues to discriminate on ethnic principle in the investigation and prosecution orf war-time violations of human rights, states the latest Amnesty International Report 2004, presented last Wednesday in Zagreb.

"In some cases, the trials for war crimes and crimes against humanity held in national courts didn’t comply to the international standards for fair trial”, states the Report on Croatia.

According to AI, the members of Croatian Armed Forces and the Police continue to have immunity from prosecution for human rights violations, although in the beginning, the authorities expressed their willingness and preparedness to investigate and prosecute such cases.
