Protests by Disabled Persons

Dissatisfied with the attitudes of the state towards their problems, the disabled persons announced a road-block of the Novi Sad-Belgrade highway.

After the month long failed negotiations with the Government of Serbia, and several rounds of protests that didn’t get them to the systemic and legislative solutions they sought, they believe that the new protests are unavoidable.

The persons with disabilities in Serbia face many problems, including the lack of properly marked parking space in the central zones of the capital Belgrade.

The project for improvement of condition for parking for the persons with disabilities, “We Would Like to Park Our Cars, Too”, implemented by UPIK Dunav (Association of Paraplegics and Quadriplegics), will continues with a series of street actions. The goal of this project is to increase the number of parking places reserved to disabled persons in the central zones in Belgrade.

The major problem in the implementation are drivers thath lack awareness and park their vehicles in places reserved for persons with disabilities. The city administration has increased the number of reserved parking places for disabled persons from 30 to 210.

Under the auspices of the project, a media campaign will be organized, designed to raise the public awareness on the needs of the disabled persons, so that citizens would avoid parking in the reserved space in the future.
