Zelena Akcija for Sustainable Development
As they say at Zelena Akcija, the term “sustainable development” is often used to describe activities that don’t contribute to sustainability. Therefore, they believe that it is important to direct the public attention at the projects and phenomena that carry potential for long-terms damages to the environment. Several such examples, listed by Zelena Akcija are the insistence on construction of highways instead of modernization of the railways network; plans to establish waste incineration stations, at the expense of the systematic separation and recycling; the illegal real estate development of water-protected areas; illegal waste dumps; intensified forestry; the wholesale of potable water springs; adoption of outdated technologies; etc. For more information about the planned EarthDay activities, visit the web-site of Zelena Akcija (in Croatian).
