Earth Day in Montenegro

On the occasion of April 22, Earth Day 2005, the local authorities, NGOs and elementary schools will organize environmental actions in Podgorica, Kotor and Ulcinj. Through planting of trees, cleaning of public parks, children festivals and information campaign, the Montenegro NGOs will send another appeal for preservation of the planet’s environment.

The Podgorica Office for Communal Affairs, Housing and Environmental Protection will organize action to clean the Toloska Suma (Toloska Forest) in Podgorica. The action will be officially open by Mayor Miomir Mugosa and Michael Pott, US Ambassador to SCG, who will plant the first threes. In addition to foresting action, the activists of the “Children Union” will read “Clean the World”, a poem by Dragan Radulovic and will give official pledge that they won’t thread on the flowers and destroy the trees.

In addition, the “Green Home” NGO Group, “Skadar Lake” NGO and the Postpesimists Youth Centre will set up and information stand at the Park of Njegos, with information about the global environmental projects. “Educo Centre” NGO will also organize a special programme at the Watch Tower, with participation of children from several kindergartens and elementary schools.

In Ulcinj, the “Morsko Dobro” NGO, in cooperation with its partners and other NGOs from the sea-side cities, will organize an action to clean the beaches and the sea-bed from the accumulated litter. Also, Kalimera NGO will clean the public spaces in Ulcinj.

Other activities for cleaning of the public parks, beaches and sea bed will be organized also in Kotor (NGO ECO Centre Dolphin), Herceg Novi (Montenegro Blue NGO), and Budva (Pro Mare NGO).
