Sandra Gojkovic received threats for her report on illegal activities at the School of Engineering
|
”The threats came even before the article went to the press. A man, who said that his name was Milutin, said that there would be consequences for my well-being and security if the article was published, and that I will have to revoke it”, Gojkovic said for OneWorld SEE.
When she asked whether she was being threatened, the man answered that she should “...just wait and see what happens if the report was published”.
The phone number of the caller was registered by the switchboard at the “Nezavisne Novine” offices, and the police was immediately notified. The owner of the cellular phone used to call Gojkovic does not work at the School of Engineering, but has a degree in Engineering.
Gojkovic says that the caller denied everything. She also don’t see what particular interest this person may have in the whole case, for their is not relation between himself and the article.
“In my mind, he was just manipulated and had no personal motives”, she says.
The threats were condemned by the “BH Journalists” Association. They say that the freedom of the media is a basic democratic right and that the freedom in a state is measured by the freedom of its media.
The report for which the threats were issued referred to the illegal re-election of the Dean of the School of Engineering in Banja Luka, recently accused of abuse of office in which he defrauded 140,000 Konvertible Marks.
