Environmental Protection Awards to Local Self-Government Units

On the occasion of the International Environmental Protection Day, the Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection announces the Open Competition for Environmental Protection Awards to Local Self-Government Units.

This plaque will be awarded to the winners of the competition.

Through these Awards, the Ministry wishes to give its recognition of the legal entities and private citizens � commercial companies, institutions, professional and other organizations, associations, individuals and local and regional self-government units, for their efforts in the prevention of environmental pollution, best production solutions with regards to their impact on the environment; development and research projects on environmental protection and sustainable development; efficient organizing and/or partnership for the purposes of environmental protection; and raising of awareness and public knowledge about the environment and sustainable development.

June 5, the International Environmental Protection Day, is celebrated in memory of the 1972 UN Conference in Stockholm, dedicated to the environment, which adopted the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP).

The goal of the International Environmental Protection Day is to involve the individual citizens in the activities contributing to sustainable development and environmental protection. This years celebrations will centre on the subject of �Green Cities�, under the motto �A Plan for the Planet!� The central event will take place in San Francisco, USA.

The Deadline for Application is 30 days after the Competition is published in the media.
