"With this protest, the students wanted to express their concern over the increasingly frequent incidents that take place around the schools, but also in the classrooms. We decided to take on this protest walk to present our requests to the local community, the Municipality Assembly of Novi Pazar, the Ministry of the Interior and the schools’ management” says Aida Corovic, Urban In Coordinator.

All demands presented by the protesters have the goal to provide for a safer stay in the schools. They want the Vuk Karadjic street closed during the school hours, as well as increased supervision and presence of school policemen, assistance from the NGO sector in terms of education of policemen in the field of children rights and prohibition on serving of alcohol in the cafes and restaurants in the schools’ vicinity.

Over the past several months, several attempted murders were registered among the students of secondary and elementary schools in Novi Pazar, Sjenica and Tutin. Other incidents in the immediate vicinity and in the schools that present danger to the safety and wellbeing of the students, continue to take place.
