Course on Public Administration and Free Access to Information

The Committee of Human Rights Lawyers YUCOM and the Media Centre Nis organize a two day advanced “Public Administration and Free Access to Information” course. The Course will take place at the MCN, today and tomorrow (March 25-26).

As in the previous course, the participants will represent the local media (TV Global, RTV 5 and NTV) from Nis area, NGOs (OGI, Youth House, Protecta, Human Rights Centre Nis, Human Rights Committee Nis, National Council of the Roma Minority) and the public institutions and enterprises (Municipalities of the City of Nis, Telecom Office Nis, Clinical Centre, Post Office, Nis Kultural Centre, Social Services Office, etc.).

Free access to information is a basic human righs, and as such, it is defined in a number of international documents and treaties, signed and ratified by Serbia and Montenegro.

Having in mind that the Law on Free Access to Public Information was adopted in the Serbian Parliament in November 2004, a need has appeared to educate the citizens, members of the press and public servants about the proper and successful implementation of this Law. This course was designed with that specific purpose in mind.

The Law on Free Access to Public Information is also the basis for a thorough break up with the past approach used by the state, administration and local self-government. The course will pay special attention to this issue.
