UNMIK Police takes serious action against traffickers
|
UNMIK Police Trafficking of Human Beings Section (THBS) has arrested 13 persons on Human Trafficking charges in the past ten days. Based on checks, surveillance and intelligence-led operations, the investigative teams were able to rescue four female victims, one in Prishtinė/Pristina, two in Gjilan/Gnjilane and one in Prizren Region and take into custody these 13 persons involved in the trafficking.
In Prishtinė/Pristina Region, in one case, two suspects, a man and a woman, owners of the café bar where the victim was held and forced into prostitution, have been placed in detention. A third woman was arrested in a different case, after investigations revealed she was involved in trafficking.
In Gjilan/Gnjilane Region, in one case, after being forced into prostitution, the rescued victim had also been sold for marriage: 4 suspects involved in the case were arrested. In another case, the victim had been forced into prostitution by her boyfriend who brutally abused her. The man was arrested and the victim provided with the necessary assistance.
In Prizren Region, after receiving information originated by the Romanian Border Police, a restaurant was located by the regional investigative team who were able to rescue a woman and take three suspects into custody. The victim had been kept there against her will and she was in bad physical condition due to the abuses suffered. She was immediately provided with the necessary assistance and shelter.
Also in Pejė/Pec region, during a bar check, one female was arrested for prostitution and another for facilitation of prostitution. A request was submitted to the Public Prosecutor to obtain the closure of the premises, in accordance with the law.
