Helga Konrad, OSCE Trafficking Representative, has declared that Albania is still far from fulfilling the standards and requirements of the European Union, related to the human trafficking.
Human trafficking in Albania remains at a high level. That means that not only plan compiled by the Government is needed, but also concrete steps towards the implementation of that plan are necessary in implementation of this plans.
There are a lot of Centers for protection of the trafficking victims in Albania, and NGOs have done a good job in this direction. But to work better, these Centers need to specialize in specific fields, since not all the victims should be kept and treated in the same place.
Towards this, she asks from the governments to establish a better collaboration between institutions and NGOs, where each side should take its responsibility.
A lot remains to be done in Albania, although the trafficking has decreased recently.

"Why cooperate?"

Comment: The article makes no mention of the fact that the difficulties with implementing such a collaboration or waging a real and effective fight against trafficking are hindered by the fact that many in the Albanian Government are themselves involved in such activities. As long as we do not acknowledge that fact publicly, the Albanian Government will have no real incentive or feel any pressure to change. The support that the Albanian government receives by being a partner in the "war on terror" gives it a free hand in continuing to degrade the rule of law and exploit the Albanian people, all at the blessing of the West.
