GONG: Announcement regarding working hours of employers and employees on Election Day

In the past several days, a number of citizens have contacted GONG about the fact that they will have to work full hours on Election Day, January 3 (most companies will conduct assets inventory). The citizens fear that their employers won’t have much understanding for their wish to implement their voting rights, i.e. they would not get a proper break during which they could go and cast their ballots in the Presidential Elections.

Having in mind that the voting right is guaranteed by the Constitution, GONG appeals to the Croatian Employers Association and the State Electoral Commission to call on the employers and demand that they accommodate the working hours of their companies to the needs of the employees who would want to vote in the elections.

In accordance with its function as election monitoring organization, GONG will include in its reports all submissions by the citizens complaining about employers that will act against the Constitution and prevent their employees to realize the voting right.
