The creation of necessary conditions for establishment of professional and quality media in line with European standards, together with accessibility of these media to the citizens of Macedonia through developed and uptodate channels and systems for distribution, broadcasting and access, is the main reason for the existence of the Media Development Centre.

The Media Development Centre was in charge of the operational implementation of the initiative of the national working group of the Stability Pact to adopt a new Broadcasting Law of the Republic of Macedonia.

In February 2006, the Media Development Centre presented the survey on the Programming Needs of Electronic Media Audience in Macedonia, one of the three surveys that are in process, and which are part of MDC programme that should provide the bases for the preparation of the National Broadcasting Strategy in the Republic of Macedonia.

The Media Development Centre is the only specialized non-governmental organization in Macedonia working on issues of media legislation and policy. We talked to Roberto Belicanec, MDC Executive Director, about the situation in Macedonian civil sector, its relationship with the media and attacks on the organization.
