Dve godine nakon sto su rumunska i madjarska strana zavrsile projekte o rekonstrukciji begejskog kanala, takva studija promovisana je i za spski deo Begeja i to zahvaljujući nadleznosti holandske vlade, a uz asistenciju Pokrajine. Plovno povezivanje Begeja sa Dunavom kostace 51 milion evra prema zakljuccima izradjene studije o rekonstrukciji Kanala Begej i upravljanja vodama sliva Begej - Tamis.

The General Consul of the Romanian Embassy in Belgrade, Julijan German, said for Dnevnik daily that, starting on July 1, Rumania will introduce a unilateral visa regime for all citizens of Serbia and Montenegro. German said that the visa regime is a result of a failure to achieve bilateral agreement between the two countries.

Konzul Rumunske ambasade u Beogradu Julijan German izjavio je Dnevniku da Rumunija od 1. jula jednostrano uvodi vize za sve gradjane Srbije i Crne Gore, posto nije postignut bilateralan dogovor. Rumunski konzul podseca da je polovinom aprila bila u Beogradu delegacija posebno ovlascena da razmotri ovaj problem i s Ministarstvom spoljnih poslova SCG. Tada nije dogovoreno, mada postoji predlog sporazuma koji i dalje ostaje, kako kaze konzul German, na stolu. Za pocetak, vize ce se izdavati na 10 dana, i to na samoj granici.

A damning judgement from the European Court of Human Rights has put judicial reform back under the spotlight. Bucharest has been ordered to pay 46,000 euro in compensation to an imprisoned lawyer who suffered “inhuman and degrading treatment” at the hands of the authorities.

EU enlargement commissioner Günter Verheugen stated Monday, 19 May, in Brussels, that the European Commission would "do its best" to conclude the pre-accession membership negotiations with Romania in the course of 2004.
