07.03.2008 On the occasion of March 8, the International Women`s Day, the Women Committee of the Union of State and Local Administration warned of the problems faced by women employed by public administrative services. Although salaries of male and female civil servants are equal for equal tasks and obligations, the availability of best paid, high ranking offces is debatable.

26.02.2008 Aware of the fact the international nuclear lobby has launched a global offensive, abusing the findings of the latest IPPC Global Climate Report requiring urgent dramatic reduction of CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions, the Zelena lista (Green List), associate member of European Green Party, was nevertheless shocked by recent announcement of possible construction of nuclear power station in Croatia by 2020.

20.02.2008 Civil society organizations demanded from the Croatian Sabor (the Parliament) to name the external members of Parliamentary Committees in a clear and transparent procedure, to reduce the number of laws adopted in an urgent procedure, and demanded greater transparency from the Government in terms of allocation of funds from the State Budget.

Trawlers try to put out the fire off the coast of Istria
18.02.2008 Vjeran Piršić, President of the Council of Eko Kvarner association, sent an open letter to Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, regarding the incident with Turkish vessel Und Adriyatik and warning of the very real danger for Croatia not to learn several important lessons from the incident.

Trawlers fight the fire on Und Adriyatik (Photo: Cropix)
07.02.2008 The fire that started on the Turkish ship Und Adriyatica yesterday morning, some 15 miles east off Rovinj, still burns, although it has lost much of its power. Experts estimate that there is little chance for explosion that could sink the ship. No pollution was released into the sea, so far.
