Several thousand citizens, led by the members of DAN daily’s editorial office dressed in black, with the logo on the paper and big targets printed on their t-shirts, participated in the protest walk from the Republic Square to the “13 Jul” street on Sunday. The walk was concluded at the site of the assassination of Dusko Jovanovic, General Manager and Editor-in-chief of DAN, who was killed in a drive-by shooting last Thursday.

The Editorial Office of DAN Daily released a statement on the assassination of the General Manager and Editor in Chief of the Paper, Dusko Jovanovic. Jovanovic was shot on Thursday night, minutes before midnight, in a drive-by shooting in front of the DAN office in Podgorica.

The editors of daily press, the association of journalists, political parties’ leaders and representatives of international organizationsl strongly condemned the assassination of Dusko Jovanovic and asked from the investigative authorities to discover and apprehend the gunmen. Jovanovic was murdered last night, around midnight, when the attackers fired a burst of automatic fire as he was entering his automobile. Jovanovic received urgent medical assistance, but he succumbed to the wounds early this morning, in spite of the several surgical operations to stop the internal bleeding and extract the bullets.

Last night, at about midnight, Dusko Jovanovic, the General Manager and Editor-in-chief of DAN Daily was ambushed and killed by unknown assailants. Jovanovic received multiple gunshot wounds and was immediately taken to the Podgorica Hospital and Clinics, where he received urgent medical treatment. He died early this morning because of the massive loss of blood caused by the wounds.

The relaese of the Pljevlja Power Plant to the Montenegro electric power distribution system two nights ago caused another environmental incident in the near-by community of Zabrdje and the surrounding villages. Due to the increased emission of particles from the chimney of the Plant, Komine and the other villages and hamlets awoke under a layer of gray-brown carbon dust. The dust fell on the meadows and garders, and the villagers that gathered in the house of the president of the local environmental board from the Community of Zabrdje, Mima Ostojic, complained that the grazing fields for the cattle and the gardens were devastated.

Zeleni Crne Gore (Montenegro Greens) NGO says that the justification of the construction of the Buk Bijela Dam and Powerplant will be possible only after a public debate is organized and the environmental impact study is prepared, in compliance with the international standards.

Having in mind the accelerated legislative reforms, the position of the Parliament regarding the Law on Conflict of Interests came as a great surprise for the Montenegrin public. The Members of Parliament did not stop at violating the Parliamentary procedures for proposing amendments to the Law, but changed the provisions that actually reduced their financial and other benefits and privileges. As a result, the passing of the amendments proposed by the ruling coalition – the same political parties that actually proposed the draft-Law – represents an absolute deformation of the said piece of legislation.
