Fifteen Serbian human rights organizations sent an open letter to Oliver Dulic, the Speaker of the Serbian Skupstina, with a demand for public apology to Natasa Kandic and the Croatian minority in Serbia in the next session of the Skupstina (Serbian Parliament).

The representatives of the Igman Initiative, a movement gathering over 100 NGOs in the region, concluded at the 11th Session of the movement held last Sunday in Belgrade, that the region still lacks the proper levels of stability and that more considerate and reserved statements and better understanding of key problems can help overcoming the consequences of the war and renew the trust.

The majority of the citizens of Serbia supports the country’s integration into the EU, but not joining NATO, shows the public opinion survey conducted by Politicum Public Opinion Research Agency, presented recently at the Tanjug’s International Press centre.

At the meeting of human rights NGOs from the region, discussing the instruments and initiatives to document and present facts about war crimes in former Yugoslavia, Natasa Kandic expressed her concerns over the fact that the governments of the newly independent states are not prepared to deal with that issue.

We are yet to meet a local government, or local official, for that matter, who will not respond, if asked, without a moment of hesitation, that the work of the said municipality is „transparent“ and that informing the citizens is paramount. In real life, however, nothing is as clear and self-evident.
