The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in B&H held the electoral annual convention yesterday in Sarajevo. The Convention voted to elect Srdjan Dizdarevic to the Office of the President of the B&H Helsinki Committee for another five year term.

Global Rights, together with 119 NGOs and individuals from Bosnia and Herzegovina, propose that the articles and provisions in the Law on Prevention of Family Violence regarding to treatment of family violence as misdemeanors are deleted from the legal text. These are some of the comments to the draft-Laws on Prevention of Family Violence and Family Law, submitted to the Parliament of the BH Federation.

At the press-conference held yesterday in Sarajevo, the Heads of Missions of the European Commission, OSCE and UNHCR in Bosnia and Herzegovina reiterated their support to the efforts of the governments of B&H, Croatia and Serbia and Montenegro directed at the return of refugees in the region, listed among the obligations pursuant to the Dayton Agreement.

More than 130 young persons of different profiles from BiH and diasphora have applied to taka part in the project “Model of BiH Council of Ministers. After the applications are examinaed, the best candidates will be enabled to attend three month internship in BiH state-level ministries.

The Commission for Preparation of Legislation of the B&H Ministry of Civil Affairs, together with the representatives of the World Bank, the Office of the High Representative (OHR), OSCE and the Council of Europe, works on the preparation of the text of a National Law on Higher Education.

Members of the first contingent of peacekeeping police officers from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) finished their basic training last month and joined the operation of the UN Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

Srdjan Dizdarevic, President of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in B&H, said that 2004 was marked by the verbal commitment by B&H authorities to the Euro-Atlantic integrations. On the other hand, Bosnia and Herzegovina visibly lags behind the neighbouring countries.
