Organized by the associations on missing persons, some 200 protestors took to the street on the international day of missing. In the morning hours the protest was forcefully disbanded with the justification that the protesters had blocked the street.

The project for construction of the “Buk Bijela” dam system, the largest on the Drina River, will be stopped if the environmental study proves that it would endanger the protected areas of the canyons of rivers Tara, Pliva and Sutjeska, released the Government of Republic of Srpska.

Todor Petrov, the President of the World Macedonian Congress and initiator of the campaign to collect 150,000 signatures necessary to call for a referendum, announced that the campaign has succeeded and that he is prepared to present the 185,000 signatures to the Speaker of the Parliament. At the referendum, the citizens of Macedonia will decide whether they will accept the new Law on Territorial Organization of Macedonia or not. The signatures will be inspected by the regional offices of the Ministry of Justice.

On Saturday, August 28, the tenth Sarajevo Film Festival was closed, with proclamation of this edition’s award winners. The five member jury had a really hard time deciding, but the First Prize went to Bulgrarian film “Mila From Mars”, directed by Sophia Zornitsa. The Eco-Award for the best short film on environmental protection, awarded with the support by the UNDP, was shared by the UK film “Extn. 21” and French production “Electronic Performers”, while the special Human Rights Award was given to “Imported Crows” documentary by Croatian director Goran Devic.

At its urgent session of yesteday, the Government of Croatia adopted the decision to remove the memorial plaques for Mile Budak in Sveti Rok and Jure Francetic in Slunj, on the basis of Article 107 of the Constitution.

Albania will start the construction of a $10 million (8.2 million euro) road in its central region, in late October as part of efforts to upgrade its transport infrastructure, the government's spokesperson Aldrin Dalipi said.

The General Managers of the Railways of Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia signed an agreement on the introduction of a direct line cargo train “Sava Express”, which will travel the Belgrade-Zagreb-Ljubljana route once a week.

The reconstruction works on the “Vijecnica” building in Sarajevo proceed slowly. By decision and agreement of the City and Cantonal authorities, the building will be used for slightly different purposes, to the effect that only a third of the total available space will be dedicated to the National and University Library. Before its was destroyed in 1992, the Library had the whole building to itself.

During his visit to Mitrovica region along with PM Bajram Rexhepi, the SRSG Soren Jessen-Petersen stated that the March violence will no reoccur. "KFOR, UNMIK, and PISG will work hard in order that March events do not reoccur," SRSG Petersen said.
